We are all struggling with new language and new concepts, as we try to redesign our vitally important public workforce system.

Recently, Mind 2 Marketplace, an innovative economic development alliance in Middle Tennessee invited Norma Noble, the Oklahoma Deputy Secretary of Commerce for Workforce Solutions to speak on Grow Oklahoma.  This initiative, like WIRED, is designed to bridge the gap between economic and workforce development.

You can learn more about Ms. Noble's presentation from this article.

OK Talent Development.png One slide in particular caught my eye. It does a particularly good jud of summarizing the difference between a system geared to job training and a system designed for talent development. (You can see her full presentation below.)

In a talk last week in Milwaukee, Jan Sten, of the Department of Labor, provided a good background on WIRED and how the Department is using this initiative to help us re-imagine our public workforce system.

You can listen to the audio. I picked up Jan's remarks a couple of seconds after she began speaking.
