The Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts has released a new report on green jobs.  This report takes a different path.  It exmines the impact of six different green economy strategies on 12 different states.  The strategies include: Building retrofitting, mass transit, energy efficient automobiles, wind power, solar power, and cellulosic biomass fuels.

The report demonstrates that the majority of jobs associated with the strategies are in areas of employment in which people already work.  For example increasing energy efficiency in buildings will increase employment opportunities for roofers, insulators, and building inspectors.

The report does a good job to explore in some depth of what green jobs really mean. It looks in detail at different occupational categories.

The report provides profiles of the following states: Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
