The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), in partnership with the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS) has released two new publications, individual state profiles, and data resources to help state leaders take a close look at adult learning in the United.  Lumina Foundation Education funds this project. We thought you would be interested in the profile of adult learners in Indiana that is attached to this memo.

You can read more about these reports and download them from this page. You can also download a report that provides you a profile of adult education in your state.

In addition, CAEL includes a webinar that you can download. To capture the webinar, CAEL uses WebEx, and the download service is provided by WebEx. You need to download a player, though.

The entire issue of adult educationis growing in prominence as our Baby Boomers age. The New England Council has launched a series of reports to look at the consequences of an aging workforce in the New England states. You can learn more about their Commission on Older Workers form this page.

If you would like some background on this issue of an aging workforce, spend a few minutes with the testimony of Donald Kohn of the Federal Reserve. Here's another good resource from the business school at the University of Vermont.

The issue of an aging workforce is international, and some of the best thinking about how to adapt comes from outside the U.S. Ifyou are interested in pursuing this strategy -- to make your region more adaptive to the needs and opportunities of older workers -- you might start by briefly reviewing some web sites. I've attached a list.
